so here's a question. Let's say you've made a habit of reading your Bible everyday, but it seems to be getting a little "too routine." what should you do to SPICE UP your quiet time with God?

  1. ouch, that's tough. well...i supose a good place to start would be to...read about something you care about. *gasp* by that i mean pick something that genuinely interests you. judges is a great place to start if you're looking. i used to think "reading my Bible" was just reading new testiment stories about doctrinal issues or how Jesus healed someone, but it's possible to read the Old testiment too and learn about God and worship him. and i'm not talking about psalms. oh, and let me say this before i go on: i'm NOT bashing psalms or doctrinal scripture, i just like a variety. this stuff might not work as well for someone else. continuing...God was really active in the Old testement. hold on...that isn't a suprise. in fact, i think God shows up more and directly shows us his personality more in the OT than he does in most of the NT, excluding the gospels, even though his personality is evident through the work of the early church and the Holy Spirit. God NEVER changes. The OT is stuffed full of great stories, and stories that make you think and wonder what on earth people were doing and why things turned out the way they did. if you want a real brain buster, try to tackle the OT, it'll leave you thinking in parts. i believe it is very applicable to our lives as Christians as well. it can definatly help us learn from others mistakes and it shows us how God really wants our heart, not just our stale sacrifices. He also wants our trust and faith.
another good idea is to pray. that's the first thing you should do before conquering anything tough, or small for that matter. God wants us to talk to Him and He'll definatly answer us one way or another.
ok, i kind of got off subject and i could probably rant for a while longer, but i'll let someone else comment. so there's two of my solutions to the question. also another might be to start a Bible study with someone. it's not just you and God time, but it can certainly help you get rentergized for diving deep into God's word.

  2. thanks for the help! I've tried lots of things and I find that journaling works best for me. It also helps me to do my Bible study outside. I guess i have less distractions that way. :) All these are great ideas!

  3. Kind of off the subject of how to "spice up the reading" but how does reading the OT teach? Is it still applicable and how?
